Release Marketing Checklist: Tasks, Owners & Deadlines
A checklist makes responsibilities visible. Use it alongside a calendar, assign an owner to each task and mark work complete only when the result has actually been checked.

Replace the bracketed fields. Changes stay in this page until you copy or download them; the editor does not save your writing to our server.
Use evidence for each completed task
“Press kit ready” should mean the public link works and the files have credits. “Release delivered” should mean the distributor’s status and artist mapping have been checked. Attach the relevant link or note so another team member can verify completion without asking for an update.
For a solo artist, the same habit reduces repeated checking and makes it easier to see what still blocks outreach.
Put dependencies before announcements
Some tasks depend on earlier work: you cannot test a listening destination before it exists, and a pitch needs accurate release information. Mark blockers explicitly. If a date changes, revise the downstream tasks and notify the people affected rather than simply moving the calendar entry.
Our 30-day plan provides an example sequence. Adapt it to distributor and partner lead times.
Do not forget the post-release work
Follow-through includes answering asset requests, recording coverage, reviewing spend and deciding which subscriptions to keep. Set the review date before launch so it does not disappear beneath the next creative task.
Record three lessons in plain language: what worked, what did not and what you still cannot explain. Carry those into the next plan rather than treating every release as a fresh experiment with no history.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this for an EP or album?
Yes. Add track-specific metadata, assets and responsibilities where needed. Keep one project-level owner so individual tasks do not lose their shared deadline.
Does checking every box guarantee a successful release?
No. The checklist improves preparation and accountability. Audience response remains uncertain and should be evaluated separately.
